The countdown is on. Back to school is getting close and closer. Before the back to school activities begin and you find yourself stumbling around your college campus wasted out of your mind a few financial matters must be settled:
Pay your college tuition fees
Unless you have a free college tuition (lucky you!) your school will be expecting the money from you any time now. My college usually emails me a reminder once the payment due date has come to warn me that I have limited time to pay up. Your college tuition fees must be paid or else the college may withdraw you from your courses without warning.
I have heard some horror stories from a few people about how they simply forgot to pay their tuition fees and instead of going back to school they went back to work for the year. Hopefully at this point you have figured out how you will cover the cost of your tuition fees.
Pick your college courses for the full school year
Don’t just pick your college courses for the fall semester. Make sure that you pick your college courses for the fall and winter semesters so that none of your mandatory courses fill up. I already have my schedule for two of my most important courses. I have to wait another week to pick out a few other courses for some unknown administrative reasons.
Take care of paper work for insurance/health coverage
If you are covered under your parents health insurance plan then make sure you opt out from your school’s plan. The reason I say this is because most colleges provide you health benefits at a one time fee. If you don’t need the college’s health insurance then you need to go out of your way to fill out all of the opt-out forms. My college requires you to fill out a bunch of forms if you want to opt out of the health insurance plan so most students just gave up. I went through the process and the college returned $200 to me.
Sorry guys I don’t mean to depress you on a Friday afternoon by talking about going back to school. I promise that tomorrow’s post will be a really fun read.
