As a college student, chances are that you’re scrambling to come up with many different ways to pay for college. You don’t want to graduate with thousands of dollars of debt. With soaring tuition costs and the urge to get wasted more than once per week, money isn’t easy to come by. Money for college students is a pretty important topic right about now because we all need money, but we don’t know where to start.
In the past we featured the best online jobs for college students. I recently found a few random ways that college students can make money. I actually found ways to pay for college in a magazine while I was sitting in a waiting room. Loitering isn’t always a waste of time.
According to Maclean’s Magazine in Canada:
“We’re a self-improvement culture. But its gone from self-help to other-help.”
In this same article, the author performed research to see what sort of work was being outsourced and what sort of freelancing income was created as a result of this outsourcing. I was pretty impressed with the results.
What are these random freelancing tasks that can help you make money for college?
I wanted to highlight the random freelancing tasks that stuck out to me because I was just shocked that you could get paid for this. They’re listed below. If you want more information on the subject, you need to check out my piece on freelancing 101.
- Visit your mother.
- Choose your outfit.
- Cook your food.
- Replace your light bulbs.
- Plan your wedding.
- Pack your things.
- Put flowers on a grave.
What did this article teach me about making money as a freelancer in college?
I learned that you don’t need any venture capital or a 100 page business plan to start a business. You can perform random tasks to make money in college.
It seems to me that now very personal things get outsourced. You can help rich students pack, make dinner for someone, or visit their mother for them. Not too difficult if you like those sorts of activities.
Outsourcing can save a marriage too apparently. But I doubt anyone reading this is married.
Why are these freelancing tasks that you can perform in college?
Because you have no money in college. When you have no money you need to do whatever it takes to make some money. Since your hours are out of whack, you need to get a little creative.
You’re only focus is on having a good time and trying to pass all of your courses. This is why I believe in starting a business with no money. All of these random tasks mentioned above only require your time (something you have lots of). You don’t have to invest any money into these freelancing gigs. You also don’t need any specialized skills. And yes, cooking is NOT a specialized skill.
