Do You Pay For This Stuff?

by MD

There are simply things in life that some of us would never spend a dime on. Some readers would never ever pay for cleaning services. On the other hand, some readers couldn’t imagine living without this expense.

Think about it. How many times have you laughed at your friend that collects shoes? How many times have you snickered when your friend upgraded their cell phone? I’ve laughed at people that spend money on car upgrades, when I get my haircut weekly and eat out more often that I should. We all have different (and unique) spending habits.

I wanted to throw out a few items from off the top of my head that I would never pay for:

Banking. Well actually this is something I wouldn’t pay for AGAIN. I’ve paid for it for MANY years. I’ve spent more money on banking then I care to admit. However, some people are cool with paying for banking because of the features that their bank offers. Are you willing to pay for banking services?

Online music. When I’m on the computer I prefer to turn on YouTube and blast random songs. On my iPhone I love to listen to podcasts. I know that it’s fairly inexpensive to download songs off iTunes, but I just can’t bring myself to it.

Personal training. I’ve been working out ever since I can remember. I’ve spent ridiculous amounts of money on supplements, gym memberships, and other gym related stuff. I’ve never spent a penny on personal training. In fact, I actually got my license to be a personal trainer back when I was 18. For me a personal trainer is nothing more than a glorified workout buddy.

These are just a few items from the top of my head that got me thinking about what I wouldn’t spend my money on.

What do you pay for that others probably don’t? What would you never pay for? What are you willing to consistently spend more money on?

Yes, I’m waiting for the first smart ass to write in sex.

I agree with all 3 of those things that you don’t pay for. I couldn’t bring myself to pay for music when there is youtube, or for a personal trainer. Seems like a waste of money to me. I know someone is going to get all “economist” on me and say that its not a waste of money if you make 30/hour and pay a kid 20/hour to mow a lawn that takes an hour to mow. According to them you’ve just “made” 10. I don’t see it that way. It sure seems like you’re losing the $20 that you’re paying the kid.

2 Budgeting in the Fun Stuff

I justify all sorts of stuff, but we use “fun” money for it. We have a biweekly housekeeper for the bottom floor for $45 (the only floor guests see, lol), a biweekly lawn care guy for $25, cable for $70, Netflix for $18…yeah, I like all of it, but I know what could get cut if we ever needed cash. :-)

I will never pay for banking or online music (although my hubby would), but I have paid for a personal trainer for a month. I have zero self-motivation when it comes to working out, and the personal trainer nagged me appropriately. I just couldn’t justify $30 a pop after a month…now I’m starting a BFS Weight Loss Support Group to hopefully get me up and moving again, lol.
