As you guys may know by now I will be giving away two laptops for free at the end of the month: the HP Pavillion DV6 & the HP Mini 110 plus Syncables computer synchronizing software, and a Timbuk2 customized bag for Studenomics. Before the big Back to School: Better Together giveaway promotion begins I wanted to review both of the laptops and share a special offer with you guys. First allow me to review both of the laptops that will be given away for free as a package.
HP Pavillion DV6 Review:
- Microprocessor 2.00 GHz Intel Centrino 2 Processor Technology featuring Intel Core2 Duo Processor P7350
- Microprocessor Cache 3 MB L2 Cache
- Memory 4096MB
- Memory Max 8192MB
- Video Graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (M96)
- Video Memory Up to 2815MB (1024MB dedicated)
- Hard Drive 500GB (5400RPM)
What I like about it:
First I will discuss the many things that I have enjoyed about this laptop. Keep in mind that I’m not much of a technical guy, I look for laptops that are easy to use for everyone.
Overall Design. From the built in web cam to the mouse pad, the design makes for a great laptop computer. When one of my IT friends looked at the specs of the laptop and he was pretty impressed and even told me that it’s as powerful as most desktop computers.
Fingerprint reader. It makes you feel like you’re in some Sci-Fi movie. You can configure the laptop so that your fingerprints are used to log you in, so no matter how much your siblings try to go on your laptop they can’t unless they get your fingerprints.
Audio quality. When watching a movie or listening to music you will notice that the audio is loud and clear.
Blu-Ray Player. I have never seen this before on a laptop but you have the ability to play blu-ray movies.
What I didn’t like about it:
Loud fan. The system cooling fan is a bit louder than I would like it to be
Too big. If you plan on only purchasing the HP Pavillion DV6 then you might have issues with portability issues but thankfully it’s designed to be packaged together with the HP Mini 110, a portable netbook excellent for note taking or going on Facebook when the professor starts rambling.
HP Mini 110
- Microprocessor 1.60GHz Intel Atom Processor N270
- Microprocessor Cache 512KB L2
- Memory 1024MB DDR2 System Memory (1 Dimm)
- Memory Max 1024MB
- Video Graphics Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
- Video Memory Up to 128MB
- Hard Drive 160GB (5400RPM)
What I like about it:
Extremely portable. To be honest when I saw people with a netbook I didn’t think it was a great idea but after walking around with one for a few weeks it feels amazing. The thing is so light I bring it with me everywhere.
Syncable software. This is a really unique feature because it allows you to access the files for one laptop while using the other one.
Software. Everything is here in terms of the typical software- from Microsoft Office 2007 to a built in webcam.
What I didn’t like about it:
The usual shortcomings with portable devices. The usual missing CD drive and modifications that are made for more portable devices. Can’t really complain too much because the netbook serves its role perfectly when it comes to compactability.
