After spending a few days on a farm I could sort of relate to Paris Hilton (minus dating everyone I meet) when it comes to going from living a hectic life in a big city to trying out a simple life in a quiet rural area.
I forgot what it feels like to actually know someone 5 houses down from me by their first name. I study full time, work full time, and any spare time I have goes to those around with minimal time left for my blog. I rarely get a chance to actually sit down and look around or to even simply call someone to see what’s new.
People here don’t care what the value of the currency is every single day, what price shares they own closed at, what new cell phone is coming out next month or even about who will get voted off Survivor next week.
There is no rush hour here in the morning. Citizens wake up at their leisure usually around 6 in the morning. They take their time and work at their own place on their farm by completing the usual morning routine. My mornings are the complete opposite: I wake up just in time to scarf down a sandwhich while running to catch the bus. I sit on a rammed subway surrounded by complete strangers that push and pull just to get off the subway.
The take home point is that once in a while we all need to get away from our hectic schedules to enjoy the simple life. This means forgotting about checking up on our stocks, checking our bank balance, and yes even turning off the iphone. I know I’m guilty of bringing my laptop but that’s only because I can’t go a day without writing.
