Reasons You Should Travel to an All Inclusive Resort

by MD on December 21, 2008

I have finally gotten around to typing something up after a couple days of extreme relaxation in the sun. If there’s one thing I love about saving money is that it provides me with more money for what I truly enjoy in life. Yes I know that sounds like an oxymoron but hear me out. The point of budgeting and saving for me is to have enough money for the future, while living a decent lifestyle at the present. By saving money by avoiding random nights out in the city (which we all know is ridiculously over priced) it provides me with more money to travel down south during a horrendous Canadian snow storm.

Now before you ask where this whole rant is coming from, it stems from the fact that before I left numerous people asked me why I’m “wasting” money on another vacation. This is a question that I get asked all too often. I have been debating the reason(s) in my head and I decided to make a post out of it. Below are reasons why you should go on vacation to an all inclusive resort.

1.  Relaxation. I don’t know about you but when I go down south I do not do anything besides lay around all day in the sun and drink at night. I may go into town or check out some local stuff but I do not perform any tasks that require a lot of energy. I’ll take a bad day on the beach over a good day at the office any time.

2. Recharge. Most of us live extremely busy lives, whether you are a full time student, full time employee, soccer mom, parent or anything else there is a good chance to need to recharge your batteries. There is no better way to recharge than to have nothing to do all week while the great resort employees cater to all of your needs.

3. Let someone else do the work. Following up on the previous statement, you deserve a break from cooking and cleaning. When you’re at an all inclusive resort there will always someone cooking for you and someone cleaning up your room every single day. Most resorts have buffets 24 hours a day where you can eat pretty much anything you could imagine.

4. Escape from reality. Let’s be honest reality isn’t always the greatest, so why not just get away from it for a week. I just finished exams and have nothing to look forward to but shovelling the driveway and going back to the busy schedule of studying full time while working. Just to escape snow and shovelling snow for a week makes the price of the vacation worth it for me. Yes I know the obvious comeback is that it is only a temporary fix, but I’ll take a week over nothing.

5. Something to look forward to. The whole fall semester  I pretty much worked full time and studied full time, so let me tell you having something to look forward to at the end of it all made it feel worth it. The stress that many people feel around exam time can seem very unbearable, so having an end goal or reward waiting for you makes it seem a bit easier.

Thanks For Getting This Far

I think the most important thing on a vacation is the fact that you are enjoying it and that you have a nice and relaxing time.

I mean isn’t that what a vacation is about?

I shut off my cell phones and laptops. I just want to take a break from the “real” world and have fun some.

Believe me when I go on vacation I usually only call home once, do not even consider bringing a cell phone/laptop, and do not even think about the real world.

Unfortunately for me and fortunately for the great readers of this blog it has pretty much become an addiction, hence why I brought my laptop for the first time ever on vacation. The first few days I was too busy drinking and eating to turn it on but the last few days I have found spare time.

The resort has wifi and it takes me about 10 minutes to get ready for dinner. The negative is that it takes a girl about an hour to get ready. Which is why instead of watching tv I have chosen to spend my downtime on my blog.

It’s interesting that except for 5, I would choose almost exactly the opposite. Hauling a backpack 20 miles a day with rain and callused feet just to see how far I could get. I was once “locked” up at a resort in Hawaii for a week where it was impossible to escape (for lack of transport). All one could do was to shop in the gift shop, swim with the dolphins or in the laguna, and eat in the 20 different restaurants. I spent most of the time there in my room.
