Your Ultimate Cheat Sheet For Becoming Awesome in Your 20s

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” — Oscar Wilde

I often get asked about how I’m always in a good mood or how I got to be where I am. I don’t think that I’m anything special, but I do know that I’m pretty much laughing 24/7 and always having a good time. This is difficult for some. And I understand that.

I believe that everything comes down to money, health, and happiness.

All three of these are closely tied in together.

I want to crush three myths right now that might just change your life at this moment.

  • You’re not greedy if you care about YOUR money.
  • You’re not a narcissist if you worry about YOUR health.
  • You’re not selfish if YOUR happiness comes first.

If you’re ready to move forward, cool. If not, you can always find another blog to kill time on. There are plenty of folks out there that won’t hold you accountable or that are just going to try to make a dollar off you.

This is your ultimate cheat sheet for becoming awesome in your 20s.

Money.

How would you deal with an unexpected expense? When’s your next vacation? How much money do you owe? How much do you want to save one year from now?

These are all important questions that we must answer.

The first thing that you should do is to stop blaming the world for your problems. You have to be willing to hold yourself accountable if you want to rock it in this area.

I looked through Studenomics to find the most helpful/tactical articles. The top three articles on getting your money together that I’ve ever written are:

  1. How-you can destroy your debt. Everything you could possibly want to know about paying off your debt. No punches pulled. We even included calculators and tools.
  2. How-to save 25k by 25. The exact process that I’ve used over the years to save money. I don’t hide anything from my readers. I throw it all out there. Why repeat myself?
  3. The A-Z guide for planning your first trip. This is my system for planning trips. No excuses. Anyone can plan a trip and get wild.

The final thing that we all need to think about when it comes to money is real estate and where you live. This will impact your life more than you could possibly imagine. This will impact where you work, how often you work, how hard you work, and how many risks you take.

Health.

You’ve got to get out there and push yourself! Your health is the only thing that can’t be bought once you get to the point of no return.

I’m not going to be a hypocrite either. I enjoy my vodka and pizza. However, indulging in vices should be a reward, and not mandatory. You can’t say that you want to get healthy and then do nothing about it. That won’t help.

I want you to work on your health one day at a time. I focus on trying to eat well 5-6 days a week. The goal isn’t perfect. The goal is to improve a little every single day. A few simple hacks that I need to share here are:

  • Sleep more. Stop wasting so much time on Facebook (difficult for me).
  • Drink more water. Chug it baby.
  • Consider intermittent fasting. I love this.
  • Lift some weights or do some pullups/pushups! Keep it simple.

What are you waiting for?

Happiness.

“I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.” — Bill Cosby

I don’t know what to write here to be honest. For me, taking care of my money and my health make me happy. Being around friends makes me happy. Attending a gym for BJJ and pro wrestling makes me happy.

The point is that we will all travel on different routes when it comes to arriving at happiness. I won’t lecture you or give you a crappy list with seven ways to become happy. That’s lame.

How do you stay focus focused and happy?

I refer to this one quote whenever I’m bored or feeling sad. It lights a fire under me and helps me keep my eye on the prize.

“Lacking an external focus, the mind turns inward on itself and creates problems to solve, even if the problems are undefined or unimportant. If you find a focus, an ambitious goal that seems impossible and forces you to grow, these doubts disappear.” — Tim Ferriss

I hope that this opens your eyes that it did for me. Chasing goals and pursuing what you want is my trick to happiness in life. Don’t believe me? Give it a try!

You need to destroy your self-doubt. You can’t be waiting around for something to happen. Get out there and make things happen. Stop reading blogs all day.

This is your ultimate cheat sheet. Save it. Bookmark. I’m going to be releasing something cool soon.

What are you going to do differently now?

  1. I’m 31, and I have the same keys to happiness. We max out our Roth IRA’s, pay our bills and taxes, save for future fun and big expenses like cars, and we use the rest to have fun right now. For example, we have a New Orleans trip planned with friends from July 14-18, a cruise from August 3-10, FinCon in September, Board Game Geek Con in November, and Lonestar Game Fest the first 4 days of January. In between all of that, we either host or attend weekly gaming potlucks, hang with our friends whenever they are free, play with our foster dog, volunteer, and work. Obviously, work gets a lot more hours than a lot of the other stuff, but the long-term goal is to save enough that it becomes optional. 🙂
