There’s no more popular topic right now than Christmas gift ideas.
Every year around the holiday season I like to put together a few pieces surrounding Christmas and money. Over the last year I thought of a few cool Christmas gift ideas that I wanted to share as you stress to cover everyone on your shopping list this year. Don’t worry, this list includes many inexpensive Christmas gifts as well.
Hobby-related gifts.
We all have hobbies. Why not get someone a gift that fits in with one of their current hobbies? I personally love to kick-box in my free time. Some of you are into photography, hockey, baseball, video games, or even collecting stuff. Each of these hobbies has an extensive list of complementary products that be used (i.e. new hockey stick, better stand for the photographer).
I find that hobby-related gifts go a long way for two reasons:
- Shows that you pay attention. Just by knowing what interests someone can be thoughtful enough. Getting them that missing piece of their hobby or something that most people can use can be the ideal gift.
- You can never have enough. If you’re a gamer you can never have enough video games or accessories. That new headset or new game can really complement your current collection. If you’re an avid reader of personal finance books, another book from a reputable author can add nicely to your stash.
When trying to cross off everyone on your shopping list, try to consider their hobbies. You can easily pick something up that they have been missing.
Things people would never pay for.
The best part about a gift is that you don’t have to pay for it. This is why some folks love to receive a gift that they would never buy on their own. There are just things that some of us would never pay for. Either for the principal of the matter or because we think it’s a waste of money.
Getting your dad that bottle of cologne he would never spend his money on could be a pleasant little surprise. You can definitely get a Christmas gift that doesn’t suck by buying something you know your parents would never pay for.
Luxury Gifts.
Who doesn’t love to be pampered? I’m sure we all do, it’s just a matter of wanting to spend the money. Last year for Mother’s Day I got my mom a day pass to a local beauty spa. A day at a spa is something every lady would love to have. It’s just that some can’t or don’t want to spend the money on this.
If you know that this person would hate a spa, then a massage would work. A soothing one-hour massage can go much further than a bottle of knock-off perfume.
Oh yeah, and don’t forget about the true spirit of Christmas. Inexpensive Christmas gifts are a great way to save money. However, you can’t always be the perfect Santa. You can try hosting a party or find a way to get everyone together. The holiday season should be about getting together with friends and family.
